Easy and Natural DYI Facial Peels for Spa-like Results

Five Facial Peels You Can Make and Use at Home

By Chantelle Kadala

A facial peel is a chemical treatment that helps lessen the appearance of blemishes, freckles, age spots, and other skin irregularities on the face. While just about everything involving chemicals and your face should be done by a dermatologist, there are natural and homemade facial peels that you can do yourself, at home.

Saving money and avoiding the risk of reactions to strong commercial-grade chemicals are just two of the many benefits of a DIY facial peel. For pennies on the dollar of what you would spend at a spa or doctor’s office you can create a home chemical peel that removes the top layer of dead skin and allows moisturizing ingredients penetrate the skin to nourish, smooth and soften it.

I was concerned about doing a facial peel at home but once I learned that the chemicals in homemade facial peels that make them work are all natural ingredients found in my kitchen I knew it was a better choice. Following are five homemade Do-It-Yourself facial peels including what they do, how to create them and how to apply them.

Five DIY Facial Peels to Improve and Refresh Your Complexion

Papaya Peel

Why it works: Papaya has an enzyme called papain that helps remove dead skin cells.

Ingredients: 1 Papaya, 3 tablespoons Water, and 1 packet of Unflavored Gelatin

Prepare: Combine the gelatin and water in a saucepan over low heat. Blend the peeled and seeded papaya in the food processor or blender and then strain it SAVING THE LIQUID. In a bowl combine the papaya juice and gelatin liquid. Refrigerate for 20 minutes or until the gelatin has set.

Directions: Wash you face and pat it dry. Spread the mixture over your face and neck. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse off using a soft cloth dipped in warm water.

Avocado Peel

Why it works: Avocado reduces hyperpigmentation and moisturizes while the egg whites firm the skin.

Ingredients: 1 cup mashed Avocado, 1 Egg White, 1 teaspoon Honey

Prepare: Whip the egg white and add the honey. Combine with the mashed avocado and mix to prepare a fine paste.

Directions: Wash your face and pat it dry. Apply the paste to your face and leave on for 15 minutes until it dries. Once dry you can peel it off.

Tomato Peel

Why it works: Tomato helps restore the natural pH and helps diminish blemishes.

Ingredients: 1 ripe tomato

Prepare: Blend tomato in blender into a fine paste. Be careful not to over blend or it will become tomato juice.

Directions: Wash your face and pat it dry. Apply paste to your face and leave on for 20 minutes and wash off with cold water.

Gentle Fruit Peel

Why it works: Fruit enzymes and alpha-hydroxy acids remove dead skin cells and the honey moisturizes

Ingredients: 1 cup fresh Pineapple, ½ cup fresh Papaya, 1 tablespoon Honey

Prepare: Puree fruit together and put in a bowl. Add the honey and mix into a smooth paste.

Directions: Wash your face and pat it dry. Apply paste to your face and leave for 15 minutes. Use a soft cloth and warm water to clean the mixture off your face.

Cucumber Peel

Why it works: Cucumber diminishes hyperpigmentation and reduces fine lines while the egg white tightens the skin and the lemon juice exfoliates.

Ingredients: ¼ Cucumber, 1 Egg White, 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice

Prepare: Peel and seed the cucumber and then add all the ingredients to a blender and puree.

Directions: Wash your face and pat it dry. Apply paste to your face and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse face with lukewarm water.
